Bowel Prep Instructions
Preparation before the procedure
Gastroscopy & Colonoscopy

For a gastroscopy:

No specific bowel preparation is required, avoid food for 6 hours before the procedure and avoid water for 2 hours before the procedure

For a colonoscopy:
​
Bowel preparation is required.

You will need to purchase this from the pharmacy or chemist (we recommend Prepkit Orange)

2 days before the procedure:

Eat a low fibre diet and avoid eating cereal, nuts, grains, seeds, fruit and vegetables

You can eat meat, fish, rice, pasta, eggs, and dairy products
1 day before the procedure:

You must have clear fluids (liquids you can see through) only

You can have water, fruit juice without pulp, cordials, clear soups, tea and coffee without milk

Take all medications unless otherwise advised

Prepare the Pico prep by dissolving the sachets in a glass of warm water and keep in the fridge for later

Prepare the Glycoprep C in 1 litre for warm water and keep in the fridge for later
Taking the bowel prep

At 3pm drink one glass of Pico prep then drink 2 glasses of plain water. Drink plenty of water to maintain your hydration

At 6pm drink the 1 litre of Glycoprep C over the next 1 hour

At 9pm drink the second glass of Pico prep followed by 2 more glasses of plain water
Leading up to the procedure

Continue to drink clear liquids up until 6 hours before the procedure

You can have your usual medications in the morning with a small sip of water unless otherwise instructed
